One Mountain Community and 200 Students Making a Difference in Animals’ Lives
Conifer Cares: Helping Animals Find Forever Homes highlights the impact of student voice and community collaboration. This book is a heartwarming collection of art and stories about animals awaiting adoption at the Evergreen Animal Protective League, and every kindergarten through fifth-grade student at West Jefferson Elementary School in Conifer, Colorado contributed to this work.
The students enthusiastically researched and showcased these adoptable pets, hoping to increase awareness and improve their chances of finding “forever homes” and loving families with a goal of publishing the book during Be Kind to Animals Week.
Conifer Cares was a collaborative effort of West Jefferson Elementary, the Evergreen Animal Protective League and the CIPA Education and Literacy Foundation to support and empower the students to make a real difference in the lives of animals in their community while promoting literacy and artistic expression.
